Communications support for the Circular Cities & Regions Initiative (CCRI)
Project duration: December 2021 – December 2025
Supporting Europe’s cities and regions in accelerating the circular transition
Our strategic services
Ecorys led the communication activities for the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), an EU initiative supported by DG RTD accelerating Europe’s transition to a circular economy. We developed the full communication strategy, including overarching key messages, audiences, channels and promotional materials, and created the initiative’s visual identity, logo and branded templates.
We built and managed the CCRI website, newsletter and social media presence, ensuring regularly updated, evidence‑based content showcasing circular solutions and the achievements of participating cities and regions.
Through continuous graphic design, audio‑visual production and support to flagship events, we ensured a coherent, recognisable and engaging communication ecosystem that strengthened the CCRI’s visibility and stakeholder engagement from the outset.

Our top picks
Web development and editorial services
Ecorys produced and curated content for the CCRI website, keeping it up to date with news, events, reports and practical tools.
Ecorys wrote 70 articles and feature stories highlighting good practices from CCRI Cities and Regions, explaining key circular economy concepts, and sharing lessons learned from projects on the ground.
Key web tools we developed include the CCRI Compass, which helps users quickly access information on services provided by the CCRI Office and its partners, and an interactive CCRI Map showcasing all CCRI Cities and Regions.
Social media management
We built the CCRI’s digital presence from scratch, establishing its social channels and growing the LinkedIn community to over 5,000 followers by December 2025. Social media was the core driver of CCRI visibility: we produced a steady mix of content for the CCRI LinkedIn page (organic and paid) and supported amplification through DG RTD’s Facebook and X channels.
Newsletters
CCRI messages were disseminated to a pool of over 3,200 subscribers through monthly newsletters and multiplier alerts, ensuring broad and sustained outreach to circular economy stakeholders. The newsletters were composed in Brevo. To increase the success of email messages, we experimented with features such as A/B subject testing and sending the newsletter at best time.
Graphic Design
We developed the visual identity and the logo of the CCRI. By providing ongoing graphic design support, we ensured a consistent and recognisable look and feel across all materials. Our work included the creation of social media templates, event assets, visual updates to CCRI methodologies, and the design of key publications such as Solution Booklets, helping translate technical content into clear and engaging formats.
Videography
Our audio-visual team delivered a range of multimedia products, including stakeholder interviews, promotional videos and webinar recordings. The videos were both produced and edited by in-house experts.
Event Management
We organised two CCRI conferences and several thematic webinars and workshops.
The first conference on 8 November 2023 required full pre‑event planning and on‑site coordination, including catering and managing hostesses and stewards. We also delivered online and on‑site exhibitions showcasing solutions from CCRI projects and partners, engaging a total of 800 participants.
The second conference, held on 5 June 2025 during EU Green Week, gathered the CCRI community and the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform for a full day highlighting circular solutions and success stories from 3.5 years of CCRI projects.
